[ A letter, neatly folded and tucked into an equally neat envelope, arrives by messenger bird to Farah’s residence early on November 5th.
The contents of the letter are less clean than the envelope suggests. Videl’s handwriting is somewhat wobbly and there are ink blots everywhere, evidence of her inexperience with an ink pen. Writing is scribbled out here and there as she thought about how best to phrase her apology and bemoaned Empatheias’s lack of computers. ]
Farah,
I’m sorry for the way I was acting after Thras died. I said a bunch of stupid, totally untrue things and acted like an idiot in front of basically the whole city. I don’t know what made me do that. There’s no excuse for my actions. You tried to talk to me and help me, even though I accused you of trying to get in the way of my stupid plan to prove a lie that I was obsessed with. I never should have done that. I’m sorry I did that to you.
I also want to thank you for stopping me from going to Shaarnath that night. I probably would’ve gotten myself both of us killed trying to fly there in the state I was in.
[ The are a few more ink blots and scribbled out words as Videl tried to think of what else to say. She isn’t particularly good with apologies. Or writing letters. ]
I understand if you don’t want to talk to me anymore. I was a huge jerk. But I just want you to know that I’m sorry.
[Now this is the kind of communication Farah is more used to, sending letters. She's not really had to write a whole lot since arriving in Verens thanks to the amulets, but she's grateful for the chance now. Of course she could reply to the letter with a telepathic message- But she wouldn't want to put Videl on the spot. Not when she clearly put a lot of time and thought into her letter, what with all the edits and changes.
The messenger bird will return to Videl later that same day, another neatly folded letter in an envelope and a Steambucks brownie with it. Farah's handwriting is simple and in capital print.]
[ Reading Farah's letter just about makes Videl cry with relief when she receives it later that day. She was almost expecting to get a letter full of curses and denouncements, so the heartfelt affirmation of friendship is so relieving that it buoys Videl's mood. A fragrant, flowery air of happiness lingers around Videl for the rest of the day, imprinting itself ever so slightly in the return letter she pens down and sends out by messenger bird first thing the following morning. ]
Farah,
Thanks for writing me back. I'm really glad I didn't screw things up between us.
I'm going to take a break from things for a little while so I can clear out my head, but I'm definitely up to train with you after that. I'll give you a call I'll let you know when. Steambucks after that is on me.
[Special delivery to the kickass Farah! Her package is of medium size with a little weight to it. Inside are a few things.
First is a set of cookbooks of popular dishes from each of the main cities. Why? Because they keep talking about food and she seems to like cooking so why not. Second is the source of the heft—there are some training weights for wrists and ankles. Sure she already kicks ass, but one can never stop getting stronger!!! Third is something to go with those weights—some leather fighting gloves. Nothing too fancy, but they do have some special dunamis boosting qualities to help pack some extra PAUNCH. And finally, is a cute little raccoon styled wool hat.
There's a little card:]
Thought you could use these to help with your training. Feel free to hit me up if you want to test them out :) -- Rokurou
[ Merry Christmas, Farah! A package wrapped in festive silver and gold paper will arrive at her doorstep via messenger bird early Christmas morning. A tag near the bow reads as follows: ]
To Farah,
I hope I got you a new challenge.
From, Videl
[ Inside the package is the weirdest baking pan Videl has ever seen, along with cookbook of highly technical confectionery recipes for the professional chef. She has no idea if the baking pan will be complicated to use, but she's kind of hoping so. Farah seems like the sort who would enjoy a good challenge, whether in martial arts or cooking. ]
[There will be a gift wrapped in furoshiki waiting for Farah on Christmas day from Naruhodou. Inside is a hand made orange/white patterned scarf, some baked goods, cookies and mochi, along with recipes to make them. There will be a card attached to these gifts.]
Merry Christmas, Farah!
I hope you enjoy these yuzu cookies and red bean mochi! I attached the recipes for them as well, but let me know if there's anything you don't understand. Have a good holiday! ~ Naruhodou
[ On the 25th, a messenger bird will swoop down and force a box on Farah! The box has Weiss' signature snowflake all over it, so if she's been observant enough, she'll know who the package is from even though there's no card or anything that says where it came from!
Once the gift has been unwrapped, she'll find a BEAUTIFUL SWEATER inside the box! That's it. Happy holidays! ]
[A small gift bag has been left for Farah late the previous evening so that she'll find it early the next morning. Within is a small recipe book with a variety of baked goods within its pages. Alongside it are some cookie cutters in even more fun shapes--most notably small versions of the "travel sized" forms the Arehtei take. She thought they were cute...]
To Farah:
You already seem to be quite the expert but I thought you couldn't go wrong with more things for your baking escapades. I'm quite fond of cookies that take on fun shapes and 'twould appear you enjoy making them.
I look forward to more adventures together although perhaps ones without hungry wyverns at our heels.
[Sup, Farah. You're getting a personal visit from Sonia late in the evening after Christmas, and she has a tray full of homemade sugar cookies with her. Knock knock!
The cookies are... Well, they were supposed to look more like this. Instead, they came out looking more like feral mutated reindeers. She tried.]
[You know what, it's the thought that counts. And the effort. And yeesh look at those mistakes which clearly had neither of those things put into them-- Okay no.
Farah opens the door to her apartment, face quickly lighting up when she realises who it is that has come to visit.]
Hey Sonia! It's nice to see you. What's up? [Like she doesn't know what's up when she eyes those cookies.
Farah is all smiles as she steps back from the door and motions for Sonia to come in.]
[Even though the end products aren't... presentable at all, at least she had made sure the cookies tasted good! And besides, partially succeeding in making this feels like an accomplishment since she had no outside help this time around. Appreciate her effort!]
You know what. [Her reason for the visit is obvious. Still, she'll spell it out for Farah as she steps inside.] I wanted to give these cookies away to you. Initially, I made this for myself, but... I thought I should share the excess.
[Well that's the excuse he uses. He actually made these for all his friends in mind, but shush.]
[She appreciates the effort! Honestly it's incredibly touching that Sonia has come along with those cookies of hers. All these from a person who a few months ago barely knew what a kitchen was!]
Nope, no idea. [There's a soft laugh and a shake of her head at that before she nudges the door shut.] You made all these for yourself? Yeah, these might be able to fill a little hole in your stomach. I'm surprised there's any left.
[She could go on, but that's probably enough for the teasing there. With a smile she beckons Sonia along into her apartment proper. It's looking a lot better furnished than when Sonia was last here, definitely warm and cozy.]
If we're having cookies what would you like with them, tea or coffee? ["We're" because of course she expects Sonia to eat some of them with her.]
[She's definitely improving her kitchen skills-- heck it's a hobby now! Sonia rolls her eyes at the teasing before looking around her apartment, making an idle comment.]
Your place looks nicer than the last time I visited.
["We're"? Of course. Ciel had done the same when he visited her earlier- offered her homemade cookies and then ate them together. While she wouldn't mind at all, the cookies are still intended for Farah, so she won't be taking many.]
I never had either before. [Wait. That's not true...] I had tea once before, but that was a long while ago.
[Kind of forgot what the taste was like. She's still undecided with her two options... but what about a third instead?]
[There's plenty of knickknacks on tables, a spooky looking plush toy of a ghost on the couch from the carnival... Sonia might notice the reindeer headband is resting on a cork board on the wall, the same board that has part of that ripped box of cookies Sonia bought Farah on her first day in Verens.
She's a sap and likes collecting memories like this shh.]
There's orange juice, sure. Give me a sec!
[Farah will be gone only a moment or two before she returns with some drinks, juice for Sonia and tea for herself. She sets them down and takes a seat on the couch before turning her attention back to the cookies.]
How did you get on making your deerlets, everything okay?
[Yeah they're poor mutated looking reindeer, but hopefully Sonia had fun with it all the same.]
[At this point, she knows Farah is lame and is not surprised to see her have that gift in plain sight. Though Sonia can't give her scrap like last time. It would be hypocritical of her to since she's now wearing a pink bow as a reminder. Looking at the reindeer headband has her cringing a bit-- Not at the gift, but she's recalling their conversation at the party. Boy, did that happen... He acted way too sappy than he'd like.
She shakes her head before she goes and sits on the couch, as Farah gets their drinks.]
I tried to make them without help this time, done a bit of research of my own. It took me many tries before I got them to my liking though. Some were not as sweet as I wanted, lumpy... burnt.
[Plus there was the time constraint she put herself, which ended up being a day late. But she's done it without a coach, which is saying something.]
The first time I tried, after I'm done with the preparation process, I thought I could half the time work by doubling the heat.
[Needless to say, it didn't turn out quite as well as she thought. Overcooked outside and undercooked inside.]
[YEAH. Yeah. That conversation did happen, and it was pretty embarrassing for the two of them. Maybe a little more so for Sonia than Farah even with the kiss and everything. Even if the headband if a reminder of how awkward things go though, they're still memories Farah wants to hold on to and remember!
By displaying the headband for all to see in her apartment. Yup.]
If only it were that easy. I'm guessing you ended up with some very squishy, very raw deerlets in the middle.
[RIP first batch of cookies. Still, it's good experience even if the first lot didn't turn out as planned.]
Practice enough times and you'll reach that point where everything just sort of... Comes together! You'll find your own ways to cut time and still get them tasting how you like them.
[And speaking of taste, time to actually try one of the cookies! Farah takes one of the malformed looking reindeer so she can have a bite.
[Gosh Farah. At least, even if Sonia's the type to hoard and hold onto physical memories, she wouldn't leave the embarrassing memories in plain view for visitors to see. That could potentially bring up a conversation for those who aren't in the know, and no way would she be able to tell the full story without getting humiliated herself.]
You're really calling my cookies 'deerlets', aren't you. [Well they are mutated deerlets, but... she wouldn't call them 'deerlets' in any time of the day.] Anyway- Yes, that exactly how it ended up being. It looked overdone on the outside, but when I took a bite for a test...
[Spat out immediately and into the trash bin they go. She had learned a valuable lesson that day on her own- no more shortcuts for the time being. When she sees Farah takes a bite of the reindeer, Sonia curiously tilts her head at her and waits to hear her verdict.]
How is it?
[Everyone else she had visited prior to Farah enjoyed her homemade cookies. They're definitely not the be all end all of cookie, but the taste is deliciously serviceable to the mouth.]
[But part of the fun of having to explain the memories behind such-and-such a thing is the joy of reliving those memories as you talk! The embarrassment. The shame. The annoyance and frustration because those tags said kiss on them and like she knew any better okay-- POINT IS it's fun reliving the good memories with friends, even if they were embarrassing too.]
Yup. The word works for them, doesn't it? Sorry I stole it from you. [Sure they're reindeer but deerlets just sounds so en-deer-ing.] And I'm sorry for your test bite as well...
[That couldn't have been enjoyable. Still, now isn't the time to think about eating squishy raw dough when she's about to give these cookies a go.
Farah bites and chews, tilting her head thoughtfully before nodding. Despite their mutant looks they don't taste bad at all!]
Mm! Part of me wonders if you might like to go sweeter with them sometime... [Though she's thankful she didn't get just a mouthful of sugar with some cookie in there too.] But they're just great as they are now. I might have to steal the recipe from you too.
[You're talking to someone who has trouble just saying the word "fun" at times and has to be forced to partake on fun activities, Farah. It'll be a long way before she finds embarrassing moments as good memories to relive with friends. That said, she will think about the good bits. Despite everything, she likes Farah's company during the party. And the kiss, although Farah was 'forced' to abide by the rule, was... sweet.]
I suppose it does. And don't worry about it.
[It's not like she copyrighted the word. And it was just a dumb nickname for Farah at the time. Sonia feels a small smile curves her lip at seeing Farah's reception, pleased that she's enjoying them. Sonia reaches for a cookie and crams it into her mouth. Then, after savouring them, she gives her own thoughts about them.]
I do like them sweeter. But I thought I should accommodate others to their taste if I plan to give them away. Not many would like them to be too sweet, I believe. [She has enough sense in her to not just dump a bag full of sugar into the cookie dough. Stealing her recipe? Well, she grabbed them from the local library, but-] Ah, so you could make them better than mine? I see how it is.
[She's joking of course, despite her deadpan tone.]
[A long way, so, maybe a few months until Farah brings it up again and they all laugh about it? Gotcha. Likewise Farah also enjoys spending time with Sonia, and of all of her friends she's glad it was Sonia she ended up messing up the mistletoe with. It could have gone a lot worse if it were someone else.]
I'm sure there's going to be someone around here who would like them as sweet as you do. [Ah yes, the sweet taste of cavities. But wait, making it better than her?] Oh I didn't mean it like that and you know it!
[Of course she is joking, but Farah huffs a little and turns her head for a moment... Before looking back with a smile.]
You've not had anything with more peppermint in before coming over, right?
[Joking right back! It's fun to think back a few months to when they first met to now. Here she's got Sonia joking around with her and sharing treats. It reminds her of home and her friends there, and how people can change and warm.]
Hm, perhaps... [The great thing about his avatar is that cavities are never something he would have to worry about. He could eat as many sweets as he wants to without consequences! For a split second, when Farah has her head turned away, Sonia smirks at her reaction before she turns back to a hard line-face.]
I might've had one.
[Just normal peppermint, no added emotional aftereffect or anything. Otherwise, this would've been a different visit.
But Sonia's definitely changed from how she used to be before. Well, she's still the sort of expressionless and serious being that she normally is, but her experience and the people she met contributed to making her lighten up here. It's a bit easier to warm up to people now. Watch as this progress regress a bit later. Farah helped too, by virtue of being around her too much. Even when their personalities are polar opposites of each other, Farah is somehow easy to get along with.
She looks back down to her cookies, tilting her head in thoughts.]
Do you think I should add emotions to my baking next time? I believe... it might strengthen the taste, somewhat. [...Actually--] Have you tried to do that with your cooking here?
[Oh the line-face gets a laugh from her. She was stuck wondering if Sonia would joke back or line at her and it looks like the more usual Sonia won out this time.
It's good seeing her more lighthearted. Sure there's still that lack of expression there and the serious personality that comes with it, but that's just Sonia right there. It would be too much if she suddenly became some bouncy, over the top soul. Surely Sonia will be this level of lighthearted for ever and nothing world destroying will change this.]
I haven't, not yet. I know plenty of places that do use emotions in their cooking but I've never done it myself. [Though when she thinks on it some more...] It might be fun to try sometime, intentionally. I've cooked a few times and felt more motivated after eating, like I'm full of energy, so maybe sometimes my emotions make it through without thinking. But...
[She smiles, though it's subdued. Definitely not the usual kind of bright and happy smiles Farah goes for.]
When I cook I want people to feel happy because of the work and effort I put in to make a meal, not the emotions they end up getting out of it. Hopefully that doesn't sound too silly.
[Better treasure this lighthearted moment before she goes back to her usual cold-self that needs to be melted again.
As Sonia listens to Farah, she considers the possibilities her own emotions could do to change up the aftertaste her own cooking. ... Most of them would probably come out cold. But when she notices that the smile on Farah's face doesn't carry the usual cheers and brightness, she frowns a little, expression turning slightly serious. She looks away for a moment to think over what Farah just said.]
I don't think it sounds silly. In fact, I think it's... admirable that you want to done it through hard work and effort rather than forcing them to feel a certain way.
[...]
I'm sure... your cooking could easily put a smile on people's faces, Farah. Without needing to infuse them with positive emotions.
[She'll try and enjoy the moment and not kill the mood, you can be dead certain of that.
That's reassuring to hear, all of it. That it's admirable and that her cooking could make others smile. While part of her does still think it might be a little silly, after all in a world of emotions like this using them in anything is fairly common. But putting in effort to make people smile with her own abilities is so much more rewarding.]
Thank you. I've always been able to make my friends smile back home with what I make, so being here shouldn't change that. Unless I try something new and way over season something, or use some strange ingredient for the first time anyway.
[There, that sounds a little more lighthearted at the end a bit more like Farah's usual self.]
Some days I miss that feeling of cooking for everyone like that. Or even just eating whatever was made by who was cooking that day. We were all together. [Whoops, she's getting a bit sappy. And she knows it.] Sorry, now I'm getting off topic.
[It's definitely rewarding to make people smile with one's own abilities and efforts. A feeling Sonia herself had come to know, after seeing the positive reaction she'd gotten from her friends after trying out her malformed cookies. After seeing Farah's back to her usual self, she follows along with her own lightheartedness.]
If you like someone to try out your new dishes, I could act as a tester. I'm sure whatever you do would end up tasting good even if you used some questionable ingredient.
[When Farah's getting all sentimental, Sonia tilts her head a little. Then, after a short pause:]
If... you like to talk about your friends back home, I'm here.
Really? Well I wouldn't mind having my own personal taste tester to run dishes by. You wouldn't have to try anything too crazy... Nothing that will make you sick anyway.
[Sometimes it's fun to get adventurous in the kitchen okay. Throwing spices around and trying new things is exciting in its own way. So really, despite the half kidding response, she might well take Sonia up on that offer sometime... As well as that invitation to talk about her friends.
Farah looks thoughtful for a moment, taking another sip of tea before going on.]
Have I ever told you about Reid before? Or Meredy, Keele? They were the friends I was traveling with back home before coming here.
[It's not often she gets to talk about her friends like this, even though she finds herself thinking about them plenty.]
[He doubts he would get sick from trying out new food anyway. Sonia is still his solid hologram- the only sense in effect is the taste. But hey, it's still nice to know she won't try out something new that could potentially make people ill, even though she already trust her not to.
Reid, Meredy, or Keele... Sonia closes her eyes, expression in a thoughtful frown, as she tries to recall any moment where Farah brought up her friends.]
I don't believe you did. [Or at least her friends might've been mentioned in passing before but never in detail.] Tell me more about them.
[Excellent, Farah can go full on crazy with her cooking and she won't have to worry. Bless you Soundwave. There won't be anything too "adventurous" honest.]
Well, Reid and Keele have both been my friends ever since we were kids. We grew up together, went on adventures... We lost contact when we got older, Keele went off to university, but we all got to see each other again when Meredy arrived.
[She's missing a lot out intentionally, particularly as she jumps from being kids to suddenly whoops someone moved away. But there's... Nothing positive to say there, so why bring up what happened in that gap.]
She's from the world above us, Celestia! She crashed down in her flying craft and Reid and I couldn't understand a word she was saying. So of course we had to figure out some way we could talk to her. [Who would just leave some foreigner that crashed down from the sky, really.]
[Hard not to notice the sudden gap. That earns a bit of a raised eyebrow. Perhaps it's irrelevant enough information that Farah sees no reason to share it. Or perhaps it's something else entirely. She can't tell what it's about. Well, she can, but mind reading is rude. Either way, she doesn't prod Farah about the in-between.]
That's nice... That you're able to reconnect with a friend again.
[It makes her wish that she's able to reconnect with her own friends back home, but this isn't about her right now. She grabs herself a cookie.]
How did you figure out to talk to this Meredy person?
[That raised eyebrow goes unnoticed... Or more like Farah notices the change in her friend's expression and chooses to move on, staring down at her drink instead as if that's more interesting.]
We took her to see Keele where he was studying in a few towns over. He's always been the smart one when it comes to figuring things out so he seemed like a good bet. He knew what language she was speaking and from there we were able to figure out what she had come to Inferia for.
[It wasn't good news that's for sure, yet weirdly Farah doesn't seem at all down or concerned about what she has to say. If anything she seems happy staring down at her cup.]
She told us Inferia. Celestia. BOOM... And you can't just hear something like that and not want to do something, right?
[Wow, Farah. Is your drink more interesting to stare at than your friend's cute face? Rude...
Well okay, Sonia's not at all offended by that. Merely curious to listen more to her story and therefore learn more about her background. It takes her almost half a minute to decipher exactly what Farah just said there. "Inferia. Celestia. BOOM"?]
... Ah
[Sonia's frown deepens at the realization. It's... really odd, however, to see Farah's just smiling though. Perhaps everything worked out in the end.]
I suppose not. I assume you and your friends did something about that then?
[You'd think after so many failed attempts with trying to reach people over the amulets, Kor would learn his lesson and maybe... not use the amulets to contact people. Just go search them out, boy! Except with all the stuff going on in town right now, it's hard to tell where exactly the people he needs might be. So here he is at it again.
Except this time it's not Farah he's trying to reach, but somebody else.]
Man... Ciel, you're smart and stuff. You have any clue what's going on with the amulets? I've been trying to reach Farah all day, and every time I do, I get somebody else instead!
[After her own round of misfires, searching Kor out in person did seem like a smarter move... But also facing Kor after telling a handful of people about him going inside her? Ugh. Maybe it's best to just wait until tomorrow to find him. Or until next week. However long it takes for her to think about him and this whole situation without being reminded of how embarrassing this all is.
But then of course, there's Kor in her head.]
Kor! At last, hey! I've been-- [--trying to reach you too! Except her message cuts off there. Instead the connection suddenly gets very heated and fuzzy as all the conversations Farah has had today come rushing back to her.
Maybe she should have kept quiet instead. Oh Seyfert why.]
Farah! [He's positively overjoyed to hear her here and now.] Boy, hearing your voice is a relief! I've been trying to reach you all day, but every time I do, I was getting somebody else instead!
[Welp sounds as though he's been having the same trouble that she's been having all this time. Hopefully he's done a better job of handling talking to a bunch of random people than she did. Haha. Hah.]
Oh... Oh yeah? Me too! I've... Yeah, I've been getting lots of different people today. I know there's something weird going on but that seems to be all anyone knows. [Talking about what's wrong with the amulets hasn't really been her focus today so that's the best she knows.] I was thinking about giving up and trying to find you in person but decided to wait things out instead.
[Beats seeing Kor and having to deal with her embarrassment right in front of him! Speaking of the connection is still very warm. Clearly she's just happy to hear from him and not dying inside.]
[Kor remains woefully oblivious to Farah's plight, thankfully (or not?) for her.]
Same here, haha! ...Honestly, I've been wanting to talk to you for a while now. About what happened before between us. But every time, I'd get scared that I wouldn't be able to change your mind...
[There's a pause, as he catches on that there's something up with Farah.]
...Hey, Farah, you okay? The connection's all warm and tingly and stuff. Hmm... Guess there really is something wrong with the amulets!
[Well at least Kor being himself gives her an easy out here.]
I'm fine! The amulets have been acting really weirdly today, it must just be a part of whatever has gone wrong with them.
[Yup. That works.
Back to the bulk of his response though. He was scared? Pfft. Well at least she finally got through to him after everything was over! But still that... Isn't really very good is it... Especially now she's rethinking it all.]
... I didn't think anything could scare you Kor. You don't seem the type to be easily scared... I'm sorry. [The tingly warmth subsides as Farah focuses a little more, a pause following as she thinks where to go next.] But you understand why I refused you when you tried to help, right?
[There was a lot that scared Kor, even if he never showed it. But that's because he knew not to let fear rule his life. He could never let fear cloud his values or his duty.]
Of course I understand. [There's a brief pause.] But even so, I still want to help you. Even if I'm scared, if I see someone who needs my help, then I help them! ["If someone needs you help, you help them! Especially if they're a pretty girl", as his gramps would always say.] That's not because I think I have to, or that I should, but... Because I want to!
[Well... She's not sure if he really understands, honestly. Granted she didn't exactly give away a lot about the memory and her feelings about it. But at least now she can see he just. Genuinely wants to help.]
... I'm the same, you know? If I see somebody who needs help I can't sit still. It's like every bone in my body wants me to jump into action. [She sounds a little more relaxed at that.] I do it because I want to help as well. I think.
[It's to atone for her past, that's the main drive there. But... When she feels so content doing it, is that really all her paying back for her sins or are those feelings more genuine.]
... Maybe we can figure a few things out together. [She might be asking for his help.]
[Kor catches onto that she's totally actually asking him for help, and it's something that brings him great joy. And it's something Farah will be able to feel over the connection, warm, gentle waves that feel like the rays of the sun, shining brightly in the sky.]
By the end of it, you'll come out of it not just thinking you want to help, but knowing you want to help. No problem, right?
[Well, feeling him grow happier is enough to make her feel happy to! In a way she's helping him by letting him help her... If she's making someone feel joy like this then it's hard to want to take it away.]
Right, no prob--! [Wait. He just said that.] Oh, yes... What you said.
[Way to take ikeru ikeru from her. Hearing Kor say it though gets her smiling even if it caught her by surprise. It's probably just a coincidence, but still.]
If everything goes okay, maybe... Maybe I can start helping others, and with style.
[Kor laughs, a smile growing on his face. He feels like the treatment's already started even before the Spiria Link, just because Farah's making a distinction here between how she's been helping people, and how she should be helping people. Helping not out of some desire to repent, but just because she wants to help.]
Heheh, that sounds more like it!
[A pause.]
Just let me know when you're ready to do this.
[He'll give her at least that much room with this.]
[Farah laughs as well, a good deal more subdued than Kor's own but still. The fact she's laughing along at all is a good sign.]
Right. I can't say when I know I'll be good... I might just let you know out of the blue one day.
[She'll have to build herself up to it. And then seize the moment when she's in a good place for trying. But she knows Kor doesn't mind doing stuff on the fly anyway.]
But yeah. I will let you know when I can. I promise, Kor.

Date: 21/12/18 01:28 (UTC)First is a set of cookbooks of popular dishes from each of the main cities.
Feel free to hit me up if you want to test them out :) -- Rokurou

it totally was.MERRY CHRISTMAS, FARAH!]

Date: 25/12/18 01:40 (UTC)Merry Christmas, Farah!
I hope you enjoy these yuzu cookies and red bean mochi! I attached the recipes for them as well, but let me know if there's anything you don't understand. Have a good holiday! ~ Naruhodou

Date: 25/12/18 23:32 (UTC)To Farah:
You already seem to be quite the expert but I thought you couldn't go wrong with more things for your baking escapades. I'm quite fond of cookies that take on fun shapes and 'twould appear you enjoy making them.
I look forward to more adventures together although perhaps ones without hungry wyverns at our heels.

Date: 26/12/18 04:22 (UTC)The cookies are... Well, they were supposed to look more like this. Instead, they came out looking more like feral mutated reindeers. She tried.]
no subject
Date: 27/12/18 08:05 (UTC)Farah opens the door to her apartment, face quickly lighting up when she realises who it is that has come to visit.]
Hey Sonia! It's nice to see you. What's up? [Like she doesn't know what's up when she eyes those cookies.
Farah is all smiles as she steps back from the door and motions for Sonia to come in.]
no subject
Date: 27/12/18 21:22 (UTC)You know what. [Her reason for the visit is obvious. Still, she'll spell it out for Farah as she steps inside.] I wanted to give these cookies away to you. Initially, I made this for myself, but... I thought I should share the excess.
[Well that's the excuse he uses. He actually made these for all his friends in mind, but shush.]
no subject
Date: 31/12/18 21:12 (UTC)Nope, no idea.
["We're" because of course she expects Sonia to eat some of them with her.]
no subject
Date: 1/1/19 05:01 (UTC)Your place looks nicer than the last time I visited.
["We're"?
Do you have anything sugary instead? Or juice.
no subject
Date: 2/1/19 10:21 (UTC)[There's plenty of knickknacks on tables, a spooky looking plush toy of a ghost on the couch from the carnival...
[Yeah they're poor mutated looking reindeer, but hopefully Sonia had fun with it all the same.]
no subject
Date: 3/1/19 18:34 (UTC)She shakes her head before she goes and sits on the couch, as Farah gets their drinks.]
Overcooked outside and undercooked inside.]
no subject
Date: 8/1/19 10:15 (UTC)By displaying the headband for all to see in her apartment.
Farah takes one of the malformed looking reindeer so she can have a bite.
no subject
Date: 9/1/19 07:57 (UTC)You're really calling my cookies 'deerlets', aren't you.
They're definitely not the be all end all of cookie, but the taste is deliciously serviceable to the mouth.]
no subject
Date: 9/1/19 09:47 (UTC)Yup.
I might have to steal the recipe from you too.
no subject
Date: 9/1/19 20:14 (UTC)I suppose it does.
[She's joking of course, despite her deadpan tone.]
no subject
Date: 13/1/19 21:43 (UTC)I'm sure there's going to be someone around here who would like them as sweet as you do.
It reminds her of home and her friends there, and how people can change and warm.]
no subject
Date: 16/1/19 02:09 (UTC)I might've had one.
Watch as this progress regress a bit later.Farah helped too, by virtue of being around her too much. Even when their personalities are polar opposites of each other, Farah is somehow easy to get along with. She looks back down to her cookies, tilting her head in thoughts.]
Do you think I should add emotions to my baking next time? I believe... it might strengthen the taste, somewhat. [...Actually--] Have you tried to do that with your cooking here?
no subject
Date: 18/1/19 09:06 (UTC)It's good seeing her more lighthearted. Sure there's still that lack of expression there and the serious personality that comes with it, but that's just Sonia right there. It would be too much if she suddenly became some bouncy, over the top soul.
Surely Sonia will be this level of lighthearted for ever and nothing world destroying will change this.]I haven't, not yet.
Hopefully that doesn't sound too silly.
no subject
Date: 23/1/19 12:09 (UTC)Better treasure this lighthearted moment before she goes back to her usual cold-self that needs to be melted again.
Without needing to infuse them with positive emotions.
no subject
Date: 24/1/19 12:10 (UTC)She'll try and enjoy the moment and not kill the mood, you can be dead certain of that.
And she knows it.] Sorry, now I'm getting off topic.
no subject
Date: 27/1/19 20:54 (UTC)If you like someone to try out your new dishes, I could act as a tester. I'm sure whatever you do would end up tasting good even if you used some questionable ingredient.
[When Farah's getting all sentimental, Sonia tilts her head a little. Then, after a short pause:]
If... you like to talk about your friends back home, I'm here.
[It's an invitation.]
no subject
Date: 27/1/19 22:56 (UTC)[Sometimes it's fun to get adventurous in the kitchen okay.
[It's not often she gets to talk about her friends like this, even though she finds herself thinking about them plenty.]
no subject
Date: 28/1/19 21:06 (UTC)[He doubts he would get sick from trying out new food anyway.
[Or at least her friends might've been mentioned in passing before but never in detail.] Tell me more about them.
no subject
Date: 29/1/19 13:47 (UTC)Well, Reid and Keele have both been my friends ever since we were kids.
[Who would just leave some foreigner that crashed down from the sky, really.]
no subject
Date: 31/1/19 22:20 (UTC)That's nice... That you're able to reconnect with a friend again.
[It makes her wish that she's able to reconnect with her own friends back home, but this isn't about her right now. She grabs herself a cookie.]
How did you figure out to talk to this Meredy person?
no subject
Date: 1/2/19 13:24 (UTC)We took her to see Keele where he was studying in a few towns over.
Celestia. BOOM... And you can't just hear something like that and not want to do something, right?
no subject
Date: 1/2/19 19:14 (UTC)Well okay, Sonia's not at all offended by that.
Misfire | After all the other misfires
Date: 5/3/19 03:10 (UTC)Except this time it's not Farah he's trying to reach, but somebody else.]
Man... Ciel, you're smart and stuff. You have any clue what's going on with the amulets? I've been trying to reach Farah all day, and every time I do, I get somebody else instead!
no subject
Date: 6/3/19 02:03 (UTC)But then of course, there's Kor in her head.]
Kor! At last, hey! I've been-- [--trying to reach you too! Except her message cuts off there. Instead the connection suddenly gets very heated and fuzzy as all the conversations Farah has had today come rushing back to her.
Maybe she should have kept quiet instead. Oh Seyfert why.]
no subject
Date: 12/3/19 02:45 (UTC)[Kor, you already said that.]
no subject
Date: 13/3/19 22:33 (UTC)Oh... Oh yeah? Me too!
Clearly she's just happy to hear from him and not dying inside.]
no subject
Date: 15/3/19 01:35 (UTC)Same here, haha! ...Honestly, I've been wanting to talk to you for a while now.
[...Never mind.]
no subject
Date: 16/3/19 22:14 (UTC)I'm fine!
I'm sorry. [The tingly warmth subsides as Farah focuses a little more, a pause following as she thinks where to go next.] But you understand why I refused you when you tried to help, right?
no subject
Date: 21/3/19 02:48 (UTC)Of course I understand. Because I want to!
no subject
Date: 22/3/19 00:24 (UTC)...
[She might be asking for his help.]
no subject
Date: 22/3/19 03:08 (UTC)By the end of it, you'll come out of it not just thinking you want to help, but knowing you want to help. No problem, right?
no subject
Date: 31/3/19 17:53 (UTC)Right, no prob--! [Wait. He just said that.] Oh, yes... What you said.
[Way to take ikeru ikeru from her. Hearing Kor say it though gets her smiling even if it caught her by surprise. It's probably just a coincidence, but still.]
If everything goes okay, maybe... Maybe I can start helping others, and with style.
no subject
Date: 3/4/19 03:11 (UTC)Heheh, that sounds more like it!
[A pause.]
Just let me know when you're ready to do this.
[He'll give her at least that much room with this.]
no subject
Date: 8/4/19 22:16 (UTC)Right.
I promise, Kor.
no subject
Date: 11/4/19 02:32 (UTC)[Kor smiles, brightly and assuredly. He was a man of his word, so he had to make sure to see that through.]
